Algaltek, an EPFL spin-off specializing in algae biotechnology, offers new techniques for algae cultivation, introducing optimization concepts with reactors combined with semi-transparent photovoltaic cells. The company is also developing supercritical fluid sterilization systems for the production of astaxanthin, a “super antioxidant” used in the food, pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries.
Its hybrid cultivation system offers higher productivity and lower water consumption than existing technologies.
