The business plan: structuring your project and convincing investors

The business plan is the tool for analysing the feasibility, viability and potential of your business idea. Much more than an administrative document, it is a genuine guide for implementing your project.

The three objectives of the business plan

With its descriptive and financial parts, the business plan has three main objectives:

  1. Helping to structure the project.
  2. Presenting the key elements of the project in order to convince potential investors.
  3. Guiding the implementation of the project and becoming a management tool.

The main elements of the business plan

Presents the key points of the project concisely, in one or two pages. It is often the only part busy investors will read: take particular care over it.

Describes the market need and what makes the product or service unique.

Demonstrates that a market exists, based on statistical data and information gathered in the field.

Presents the competition and explains how your business stands out from your competitors.

Sets out the objectives and the means used to market the products / services.

Describes the main risks the company may face and the measures planned to deal with them.

Highlights the skills of the various team members and how the company is organised.

Presents, in condensed form, the 3-year forecast income statement, the cash flow forecast and the financing needs.
