Kaptive, the Fribourg software for tailor-made interactive digital signage
Running content on screens equipped with interactive kiosks is often complex to set up. With Kaptive, the Fribourg start-up state systems offers a solution for displaying all kinds of static, dynamic or interactive content on screens, projectors and LED walls.
The project grew out of an assignment for the Kaeserberg Museum. Running the site's many interactive kiosks proved complex: each installation required specific development, as the digital signage solutions on the market offered no reliable features for displaying this type of content.
Kaptive is based on an intuitive web editor for creating and displaying content on one or more screens via a small dedicated box. The editor can also be used to develop applications for iPads and mobile devices. Remote administration, quick updates and centralised management of all devices are included.
The solution can also serve as an auxiliary emergency system, automatically displaying evacuation plans on screens when connected to the building's alarm. In the future, it will also be able to interact with sensors and physical controls.
Kaptive is offered as annual licences per connected screen plus the purchase of the box, supplemented by content creation and support services.
Aimed at museums, schools, shops and restaurants, Kaptive seeks to offer visitors an immersive experience while simplifying maintenance for administrators. After initial deployments at Kaeserberg and at the Glâne secondary school (CO), the company aims to equip 500 screens by the end of 2026. Supported by Fri Up, the start-up wants to structure its commercial development, expand its partner network and acquire new customers. Developed and hosted in Switzerland, the solution is designed to be simple, robust and scalable.
