A nomadic bicycle repair service and a new generation of stadium lighting – these are the projects of Fribourg-based start-ups ByKarl and Swiss Precision Lighting, which we have had the pleasure of supporting since February 1.ByKarl: In Switzerland, over 250,000 people use bicycles as their main means of transport every day.
If you too are an enthusiast of soft mobility, you may be familiar with the frustration of seeing your journey suddenly hampered by a technical glitch.
Faulty brakes, a flat tire or jammed chain, you’re forced to take the long way to the nearest bike store.
To avoid this kind of inconvenience, start-up ByKarl offers a nomadic maintenance and repair service that comes to you at home or at work.
Contacted via a smartphone app, a mechanic joins you by cargo bike and takes care of your bike.
Ecological and practical, ByKarl’s offer is also aimed at companies with a fleet of bicycles for their employees. Swiss Precision Lighting: this Moroccan start-up has developed a new generation of LED floodlights designed to illuminate outdoor sports facilities.
What makes them special?
They totally eliminate the light pollution caused by conventional spotlights.
Swiss Precision Lighting’s ultra-powerful systems project dimmable beams of light that illuminate only the desired parts of the pitch, leaving the rest in the dark.
This revolutionary technology should enable towns and cities to ensure optimum lighting at sporting events, while saving up to three-quarters of the cost of conventional lighting and protecting the surrounding fauna from light pollution.
