In 2020, Fri Up supported more people wishing to start their own business than ever before.
A record year that underlines the ability of the people of Fribourg to adapt and persevere in a particularly difficult context. In 2020, Fri Up responded to 328 new requests for advice from entrepreneurs wishing to set up their own business in the canton of Fribourg, compared with 268 requests in 2019 and 310 in 2018, a record year to date.
On the start-up side, 9 new innovative companies joined Fri Up’s support program.
The nature of the 328 business projects analyzed in 2020 by the Fri Up team is very diverse.
The majority fall into the following three areas of activity: Local products, shops and services, IT services and communication and information activities.
This distribution appears to be representative of the Fribourg population’s desire to promote short supply chains and digitalization.
Another interesting finding: the number of entrepreneurial projects led by students from Fribourg’s universities and the University of Fribourg is growing strongly.
2020, a record year.
The main reason for this is that the canton of Fribourg has stepped up its entrepreneurial initiatives in recent years.
Even in a difficult economic climate, people who had developed a business idea had the support they needed to bring their project to fruition.
Secondly, the particularly difficult context of Covid-19 also contributed to making entrepreneurship a real option.
During the semi-confinement period, the people of Fribourg chose to take advantage of this forced halt to take a serious look at their plans for independence.
