The ChemTech Institute (HEIA-FR) stands out for its unique ability to turn laboratory concepts into industrial processes, thanks to its sophisticated pilot plant. This facility is specially designed to facilitate the transition of chemical innovations from the laboratory scale to pre-industrial production.
Access to chemistry infrastructures for scale-up.
The pilot hall for chemical production is spread over 3 floors in an ATEX zone, with equipment such as : stainless steel and enamelled reactors (from 50L to 630L), rectification columns, falling-film evaporators for heat-sensitive products, a LIST mixing reactor for the synthesis of polymers and high-viscosity products, plate dryers, Nabertherm oven, Heinkel industrial centrifuge, gas washing columns, specific filtration and drying equipment adapted to the needs of the pharmaceutical industry. We have other equipment such as CCS (centrifugal contactor separator) and soon a reactive extruder and a WAB reactor for mechanochemistry. We are also equipped for thermal safety assessments with DSC, RC1, TGA.

How does it work?
Initially, we work with start-ups on Innosuisse-funded projects aimed at validating a process on a larger scale or at pre-industrialization. The aim of collaboration is to prepare your innovation for industrialization. We provide the infrastructure, skills and experience to take your concept from the laboratory to pre-industrial production. Several start-ups are already taking advantage of our infrastructure and expertise, including Bloom Biorenewables and Seprify, to develop their pre-productions and scale up.
